3/9/2018 0 Comments Guest Artist WatercolorThis project used new waterecolor techniques to create something natural. I chose a bee on a flower. We had a guest artist explain the technique to us, which was very interesting and exciting to try, especially the big reveal at the end. Self Evaluation

2/9/2018 1 Comment Landscape and pattern practiceAfter making our 100 patterns, we used them to practice shading and value in a landscape drawing and wrapping around a cube and a cylinder. These exercises prepared us for the final project.2/9/2018 0 Comments 100 PatternsWe were tasked with creating 100 original patterns to use in our final project. These patterns were made with pen and ink and had to show a variety of depth in order to give the illusion of shadow or lighting differences.
2/9/2018 0 Comments Pen and Ink ExercisesThese pattern exercises enabled us to create our own patterns and copy existing patterns. We started with the first two images, copying patterns on a grid and and copying basic forms, and finished by creating our own grid patterns.
2/1/2018 0 Comments Pen and Ink ShapesTo develop an appreciation of creating 3-D shapes with ink, we replicated 4 3-D prints of shapes in stippling to show depth. This took a while, but the results demonstrated a knowledge of shading and value that we can apply to our future art.
2/1/2018 0 Comments Pen and Ink patternsTo improve our ink skills, we copied patterns and textures to show contrast. This showed me examples of creating surfaces like wood grain so that I would be able to texture my own art in the future. The first image is a printed texture, and the image below it is my effort to replicate that stroke pattern or texture.
2/1/2018 1 Comment 9-Step Pen Value ChartsTo develop pen skills, we filled out 9-step chart for 4 different pen techniques. These techniques were stippling, hatching, cross-hatching, and invented. The charts showed how to display value using pen by beginning dark and getting increasingly lighter as the boxes went. The first technique, stippling, is made of dots. Hatching is done with parallel lines, and cross-hatching is done using perpendicular lines. Invented allowed us to create our own technique. The value charts are below.
