6/1/2018 0 Comments Final ReflectionIn this class, I've learned a lot about myself and my art. Trying different mediums has been a very interesting experience, and it taught me to push myself and attempt things outside of my comfort zone. I feel like I have improved as an artist, and I'm more prepared to be involved with art in college because of everything I worked on in this class. As a teacher, Ms. Rossi was incredible in offering advice but allowing us to do what we were capable of, and holding us accountable of our own abilities. I was worried that this class wouldn't be taken seriously, but each day I came in and worked on what I loved. I really do regret not taking art classes earlier because continuing into AP Art would've given me even more experience.
One of my favourite projects was the pen and ink, as ink is my favourite medium. I wouldn't have thought of doing a picture completely in patterns, but it inspired me to produce more pieces like it on my own time. Another favourite was the three-color portrait. I struggled with this project, and it took me a while to understand how to get the effect I wanted from only three colors. It taught me a lot about blending, and I really liked my finished work (even thought it was a little yellow). All in all, each project was well thought-out and interesting to complete. Thanks for everything this year! This class has given me a lot of confidence, and it has been a great way to end senior year doing something I love.

1. He drew many tropical landscapes, so I imitated his style of lush vegetation. 2. He had a tendency to paint animals in landscapes they didn't belong in, so I painted giraffes in a Hawaiian scene. 3. His colors were typically pronounced, so I put many colors in the painting to imitate his storybook style. 4. His shapes were normally simple and soft, so I tried to replicate the vegetation I had images of in this style.

I chose to do a Pavlova, which is a traditional french dessert. Clay Food Critique Self Evaluation
5/17/2018 0 Comments Artists researchHenri Rousseau: Henri Julien Felix Rousseau was a post-impressionist painter born on May 21, 1884. He became a serious painter later in life, and was very inspired by nature. His best-known work shows jungle scenes. Many illustrated books inspired his work, as well as botanical gardens in Paris. He was fascinated by “taxidermfied” wild animals. His paintings often had an exotic feeling. He claimed to create a new genre of portrait landscape by staring at a painting with a view (like a favourite part of a city) and create a person in the foreground.
Henri Toulouse-Lautrec: Lautrec was an aristocratic, alcoholic dwarf known for his paintings of dance hall performers and prostitutes, as well as his promotion posters for entertainers and celebrities. He was a very sickly little man. He was fascinated by horses, and they are seen in his earlier and later works. He did numerous chalk drawings. Lautrec painted in an Impressionist manner and often posed sitters in the Montmatre garden of Pere Forest. He painted with oil thinned with turpentine on cardboard, showing his loose and sketchy brushwork. 5/14/2018 0 Comments Prismacolor Practice5/14/2018 0 Comments Prismacolor Practice ShapesIn this exercise we learned how to shade and establish a light source with prismacolors in order to receive a 3-dimensional effect. We attempted this on two different types of paper to understand the effect it had on the colors.

This was a challenging project that required patience in order to properly blend together each color found in the image, as well as going square by square for each shape. 4/11/2018 0 Comments Pop Art ResearchWarhol: Andy Warhol was a commercial illustrator in New York. He screen-printed famous individuals as well as every day items like soup cans. He is one of the main faces of pop art. His drawings were typically in a comic style and used simple and bold lines. His drawings were typically whimsical, but he presented a variety of work as seen in his Death and Disaster series. This series showed horrific events and appeared to place the user behind a screen when viewing his work. Warhol pioneered into pop art and introduced it to large spheres with his high influence.
Lichtenstein: Roy Lichtenstein was a greatly critiqued American pop artist. His work composed of modernist painting and abstract qualities before he developed his articulate pop style. His work was inspired by comic strips and became iconic in the art world. Lichtenstein blended mechanical reproduction and drawing by hand to create his work. His art came from the current culture, and did not give way to his personal feelings of the subject. The Ben-Day dots are most associated with him and can be found in many of his iconic images. Oldenburg: Claes Oldenburg was an artist from New York known for his soft sculptures of foods. His rented storefront opened in 1961 and contained stuffed paintings of everyday items, such as cheap clothes and diner food. These are now deemed the sculptural expression of the pop art movement. The soft sculptures are large in size, giving the viewer a different perspective on the item. His work critiqued American culture and placed everyday objects as public art. Oldenburg is considered the most Surreal of Pop artists. Clay Terms
